The Director General (DG) of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has called for a renewed commitment to professionalism and punctuality among staff, emphasizing the need for a positive work attitude to enhance productivity and service delivery. This was during a staff durbar held to address pressing issues and share his vision for the organization.

In his address, the DG expressed concern over the widespread lateness to work among staff, contrasting it with the discipline found in the military. He underscored that improved staff conduct was essential to justify efforts to negotiate better conditions of service.

He pointed to two critical elements needed to ensure a conducive working environment and staff welfare: the passage of NADMO’s Legislative Instrument (LI) and the establishment of a formal scheme and conditions of service. According to the DG, these would standardize staff upgrades and resolve long-standing discrepancies in promotions.

Calling for unity and support for the new leadership, the DG urged all staff to embrace the positive changes being introduced. He announced that staff durbars would become a quarterly event, fostering regular engagement and feedback from staff to improve organizational performance.

In a bid to address long-standing promotion delays, the DG revealed he had personally intervened to ensure that staff close to retirement, who had not been promoted in years, received their due elevation. He assured that more promotions would follow for others in similar situations. A Promotion Board is also being established to handle all promotion-related matters systematically.

The DG further announced plans to embark on regional familiarization tours to NADMO offices nationwide. These visits will allow him to better understand the operational realities on the ground and listen to the concerns of staff directly. He stated that this tour would begin after the appointment of heads at the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District (MMD) levels is finalized.

Deputy DGs also addressed the gathering, encouraging staff to rally behind the DG’s team and support the broader Reset Agenda championed by the President. They emphasized the need to uphold NADMO’s motto of “Prevention.”

The durbar also addressed historical wrongs within the organization, with assurances that necessary corrections would be made. Internal auditors were urged to remain vigilant and report anomalies such as ghost names on payrolls, ensuring transparency and accountability.

On the matter of staff welfare, the DG announced that discussions were underway with the Human Resource Department to restructure the National Welfare Fund. The aim is to implement periodic elections for welfare officers, providing fixed terms and ensuring democratic leadership within the fund.

The durbar concluded with firm assurances from the DG that all the issues raised would be addressed as part of a broader agenda to elevate NADMO’s service and staff wellbeing.
